ENERGY STAR RULES CHANGING JAN. 1

The U.S. Department of Energy has laid out new ENERGY STAR rules for the Northern Climate Zone.

We're here to help you understand the changes and how they affect you. By now, you've probably heard that the U.S. Department of Energy is changing the rules for what qualifies as an ENERGY STAR window and door beginning January 1, 2016.  What does it all mean?  Minnkota Windows wants to help clear it up:

Beginning January 1st, the following criteria will be in place for windows and doors in the Northern Climate Zone:

Windows

U-Factor =< 0.27, SHGC Any

U-Factor 0.28, SHGC >= 0.32

U-Factor 0.29, SHGC >= 0.37

U-Factor 0.30, SHGC => 0.42

Doors

U-Factor =< 0.30, SHGC =< 0.40

In short, any window with a U-Factor at, or below, 0.27 will qualify for ENERGY STAR regardless of the solar heat gain coefficient.

Every product fabricated by Minnkota Windows will meet these new ENERGY STAR requirements.  In some cases, glass packages different from our current standards will have to be utilized to reach a 0.27 U-Factor, or a corresponding SHGC based on a U-Factor between 0.28 and 0.30.
